As far as I know, it is true. See, e.g., http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/413189/Sir-Isaac-Newton. Of course, 25 December 1642 refers to the Julian calendar. As the page above says, this corresponds to 4 January 1643 in the revised calendar.
